Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines and acts bacteriostatic against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, like Bordetella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. Doxycycline is also active against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and Rickettsia spp. The action of doxycycline is based on inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. Doxycycline has a great affinity to the lungs and is therefore especially useful for the treatment of bacterial respiratory infections.
Chickens (broilers): For the treatment of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
Fattening pigs: For the treatment of clinical respiratory infection caused by sensitive strains of Pasteurella multocida.
In case of any infective process, a bacteriological confirmation of the diagnosis is recommended, as well as a sensitivity test of the bacteria causing the process.
Chickens (broilers): 20mg of Doxycycline per kg body weight per day for 3 to 5 days.
Fattening pigs: 10mg of Doxycycline per kg body weight per day for 5 days.
